ALTERNATURE

The exhibition ALTERNATURE delves into the complex and ever-changing relationship between humans and nature through photography and immersive installations. Christoffer Relander uses his signature multiple exposure technique and experimental approach to stretch the limits of how we view the natural world. This exhibition brings together three unique projects: We Are Nature, Doubled Days, and Jarred & Displaced—each offering a fresh take on how we connect with nature. Together, these works encourage viewers to reconsider their relationship with the environment by blending dreamlike visuals with real ecological themes.

ALTERNATURE is an interdisciplinary project that combines a variety of artistic and scientific perspectives. Collaborating with opera singer Jenny Carlstedt, music producer Mathias Boman, and ecologist Simone Santos from Åland Nature & Environment—who crafted biospheres using mostly local plants—Relander creates a rich, multidimensional experience. This fusion of visual art, music, and ecological science invites the audience into a deeper conversation about our place in the natural world. With soundscapes and scientific insight woven into the installations, the exhibition reflects on our connection to nature and sparks thoughts about our impact and responsibilities. Through his multiple exposures, Relander presents nature as both familiar and fantastical, engaging viewers on an emotional, intellectual, and sensory level.
